2007 CARDBOARD BOAT RACE

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2007
RIVER ROAD PARK,
KANKAKEE, ILLINOIS

Rules and Wavier

Who can enter : Anyone over the age of 8. There may be up to 2 participants in a boat. All individuals under the age of 18 are required to have a parent or legal guardian sign the Wavier where required in order to participate. If there are 2 people in a boat , the age of the oldest person will determine the age division.

Registration Fee is FREE!!! Sponsor are provided through area business.
Entrance to the park: $10.00 per car load

Construction and Supplies: The following items will be provided and are the only supplies permitted to
build your boat.


You may bring items to decorate your boat.

  • 2 sheets of cardboard, approximately 5' x 8' each
  • Roll of Duct Tape
  • Sheet of Plastic Film
  • Life Jackets and Paddles
These items will not be supplied. Please bring your own box cutter, decorating supplies (no spray paint) and tape measure.

Starting Method: All boats will be in the water with participants in the boat, at the designated starting point. One person that is not in the boat may assist in a push start.

Race Course: The boat and its crew must be in the boat upon completion to win. Boats will begin on the right side of the buoy and go around and finish on the left side of the buoy between designated area.

Precautions are taken for everyone's safety, there will be rescue boats on the river at all times during the
race. All participants must wear a lifejacket regardless of their age. Only the participants and the people
assisting in the push off are permitted on the river banks. All other spectators must remain behind the yellow tape. This is so the staff is able to view participants in the water that may require assistance.

Precautions are taken for everyone's safety; there will be rescue boats and crew on the river at all times during the race. All participants must wear a life jacket regardless of their age or ability to swim. Only the participants and the people assisting in the push off and one person taking pictures are permitted on the river banks. All other spectators must remain behind the yellow tape.

The undersigned parent or guardian understands that there is an element of risk involved in all sports, including construction and racing of cardboard boats.

Now therefore, in consideration of the acceptance of the above named participant do hereby agree to hold harmless and indemnify the KankakeeValley Boat Race Association, their officers, board, employees, agents, planning committee and the personnel engaged in or volunteering to help conduct this activity from any and all liability for a claim, demand, suit(s) or causes of action growing out of any way attributable to any personal injury or damage to the above participants what so ever including personal injury or damage arising solely or in part from the negligence of any indemnity, arising out of any way connected with the operation of, participation in or in any matter connected with the races and activities of the Commander
Packaging, Reed's Rental Cardboard Boat Races.

I have read this document completely, understand the contents and give permission for my child or myself to participate in the Commander Packaging, Reed's Rental, Kankakee Valley Regatta Cardboard Boat Races.
